Abstract: Radio frequency band is becoming more and more invaluable due to increasing demand of
bandwidth in wireless communication services. In Conventional OFDM there is lot of wastage of
bandwidth due to guard interval. The purpose of guard interval is to overcome the effects of inter-
symbol interference caused by multipath. The Paper aimed to reduce this guard interval to achieve
much improved bandwidth efficiency in terms of improved data rate and BER performance. For this
purpose, A one tap feed forward equalization technique has been implemented to overcome the
multipath effects and the intersymbol interference (ISI) caused by it. A static Rayleigh channel is
modelled to observe the effects of intersymbol interference caused by the multipath. First the
conventional OFDM modem is simulated according to the IEEE 802.11a standard and then the
proposed equalization technique was implemented to observe the error free transmission without the
overhead of guard bits. The new proposed OFDM technique achieves higher information rate and
lower symbol error rate as compared to the conventional OFDM. The paper contains the procedural
steps involved in the simulation of OFDM in Simulink and gives a comparison between the results
obtained after simulating conventional and bandwidth efficient OFDM.

1 INTRODUCTION
During the past ten years, communication industry has grown up by the orders of magnitude, people want to
stay in touch with each other without the bound of distance, thanks to communication industry, which made it
possible for the people to communicate with each other no matter where they are living in the world and how,
many distant they are. Communication
